Billing and Pricing on Varity

Every Varity account has one prepaid balance in USD. AI Gateway (Chat, Build, and API keys) and Varity Cloud (apps, CPU VMs, and GPUs) all spend from it.

This page explains the billing shape. The plan, allowance, and top-up values below are rendered from a snapshot of the billing contract; the live pricing service and the quote you confirm own current per-resource prices.

  • Each paid renewal adds the plan’s included usage to your balance.
  • Unused plan usage rolls over for 1 billing cycle while your subscription stays active. It is lost when you cancel.
  • Upgrades take effect immediately and add the difference in included usage. Downgrades and cancellation take effect at the next billing cycle.
  • Paid plans do not also receive the Free plan’s monthly usage.

Free Plan

  • $5 of usage per month (UTC calendar month). It does not roll over.
  • Up to $0.50 of AI usage per day, on the cheapest suitable model. Any subscription or top-up removes the daily limit.
  • Free usage pays only for Chat, Build, and static apps. Everything else, including AI Gateway API key requests, needs a paid balance from a subscription or top-up.

One Free Starter App

Free accounts can run one Starter app at no charge after saving a card that passes verification. Each card can back only one free app.

  • The free app does not spend your Free plan usage. Paid plans keep it too.
  • It keeps running while you sign in at least once every 30 days. If you do not, you get a notice first, and after 30 days without a sign-in the app is stopped. Its source is kept, so you can redeploy it in one click.
  • It runs on a Varity subdomain.

Top-Ups

You can add funds at any time, on any plan.

  • Top-ups start at $20, with $20, $100, and $500 options.
  • Top-ups do not expire.
  • Auto top-up is optional and off by default. When it is on, you choose the threshold, the amount, and the most it can add in a month.

Your balance is spent oldest first: plan usage before top-ups.

What You’re Charged For

Each paid app bills up to a fixed monthly maximum in USD, based on the resources that app reserves, prorated by the time it runs.

Your bill does not change with:

  • Traffic or bandwidth
  • Requests or invocations
  • Build minutes

This is the core difference from usage-metered hosting, where billing follows usage meters. With Varity, an unchanged profile keeps the same monthly maximum no matter how much traffic it serves. For the full model, see How Pricing Works.

CPU VMs and GPUs are priced by the quote you confirm, shown in USD. AI Gateway requests are charged per request; see AI Gateway Billing and Keys.

Seeing Your Balance

The billing page of the Developer Portal shows your plan, available balance, plan usage that expires soon, the Free plan’s daily AI allowance, and your free app status. Every plan renewal, top-up, charge, refund, and expiry appears in your billing history.

If billing state cannot be read, the portal and API say it is unavailable rather than showing a zero balance.

Deleting an App

Deleting an app requests teardown. Follow the resulting operation or resource state until billing reports a terminal stopped state; request acceptance is not proof that resource release and billing closure are complete.
